Metro Deaf Interpreting Professionals, is pleased to announce that the St. Louis Fair and Celebrate St. Louis (formerly Live on the Levee) has contractually been awarded to Mary Luebke of Communicate Plus. Loretto Freeman and Angeline Early-Exton will coordinate interpreter and volunteer services! We are excited about being part of the fair this year and want you to come celebrate Independence Day with us on July 3rd and 4th. The Disabilities' tent will be located at the top of the hill up from the Hyatt Hotel (formerly Adams Mark and the former location in years past). The Main stage performances will be held under the Arch with a roped off area for spectators with disabilities. Both Main stage and Children’s' stage performance will be interpreted. Please go to the website below to check the times for all events. We are expecting great weather and a great turnout!
And the celebration goes on with Celebrate St. Louis shows the following weekends in July: 9 &10, 17 &18, and the 23 & 24. The stage for this part of the celebration will be located on Memorial Street as will the Disabilities' tent. Please review the websites for the event schedules. News from our President
Hello Community,
Yes, it has been a while since my last update report and here is the recap. The Deaf Community Center Executive Committee has been working hard to revitalize the Board of Directors for our community center. We have handpicked individuals that we feel that will represent the Deaf Community Center at its best interest and to share the vision by having a new center in the future, to implement programs, and partnership with other organizations. I realize we are still a long way from our goals, but things are moving toward for a better future for our community.

DCC hosted its very first Leadership Workshop for the community by having Ms. Julie Rems-Smario, Deaf Hope Executive Director, who gave a workshop on “Creative Fundraising Strategy” to deaf community members and organizational members. During the course of the workshop, she helped raised $513 for DCC by auctioning off the pictures that were created by several groups who participated in the workshop. The pictures were donated to DCC which will be framed and shown in our center. As part of the auctioning, President Jeff Prail had to kiss her feet to show his appreciation for the fundraising she did for DCC. Later in the evening, DCC hosted a Wine and Cheese event.
In DCC news, we have acquired HCSP (Home Care Service Program) for the Deaf elderly. With HCSP volunteers who continue to oversee this program, we realize how special this service is and one of its kind that focus on deaf elderly. With a possible grant opportunity, it is our priority to keep this program alive by continuing to serve the elderly that needs assistance in order to continue to live independently in our community.
We will be celebrating our 13th annual Deaf Awareness Baseball Night at Busch Stadium on Friday, August 20th. Join us and watch our Cardinals play against San Francisco Giants. Please check out our flyer on our website and click ‘Events’.
At last, the good news everyone is waiting for, the 2013 Deafestival is officially underway and an announcement will be made this coming fall.
